Hannah Antkoviak, a sophomore at Olivet Nazarene and the NAIA record holder in the women's 400-meter hurdles at 56.97 seconds along with the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion in the 100-meter hurdles and 400 meters, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss her preparation to compete in the 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay May 24-26 at the NAIA Outdoor Championships at Indiana Wesleyan in Marion. Antkoviak revisits her personal-best 13.55 seconds in the 100 hurdles May 13 at the St. Francis Fighting Chance in Illinois, elevating her to the No. 6 competitor in NAIA history. She also reflects on clocking 54.57 in the 400 on May 6 at the conference final, also at St. Francis, and ascending to the No. 16 all-time NAIA performer, and how that has provided confidence for her 400 hurdles. Antkoviak explains how significant it is that Olivet Nazarene has 12 female athletes qualifying for the NAIA championship meet, and how meaningful it has been to earn All-America honors at both the NAIA indoor and outdoor finals in the 4x400 relay. She also shares how valuable the experiences have been in competing at past NAIA championship meets, as well as April 28 in the 400 hurdles at the 113th Drake Relays, where she achieved the NAIA record in a runner-up finish behind South Dakota's Jacy Pulse (56.79). Antkoviak, a winner of multiple Michigan Division 2 state titles at Allegan High, speaks about her excitement for the NAIA championship meet being held in Indiana, allowing several family members to attend the event. She expresses gratitude for the support of the Tigers' coaching staff, along with her family, friends and teammates, especially when dealing with additional pressure following her school and NAIA record performances this season. Antkoviak also analyzes how important her faith has been in providing her calm and peace of mind ahead of meets, in addition to mental and emotional strength during competitions. She also speaks about how meaningful it would be to become the first Olivet Nazarene female athlete to win an NAIA outdoor title in any event since Kylie Davis in the shot put in 2018, along with the first women's 400 hurdles champion in program history.
